This small double fitted sheet measures 120 x 190cm and is made with an extra deep 40cm skirt, fully elasticated the whole way round. It is manufactured in Britain, in our own Rochdale factory, in 200 thread count microfibre. Small double is the size most retailers skip, which is why so many people end up buying a double and folding the excess underneath. This one is cut properly for a 4ft bed.

Why 40cm, and what it fits

Small double beds are common in box rooms, guest rooms and older houses, and they often carry a thicker mattress or a topper to make the most of the space. A deep small double fitted sheet at 40cm fits mattresses up to that depth, covering a standard 20cm to 25cm mattress and either of those with a topper on. If you have been making a double sheet work on a 4ft bed, this is what it should have felt like.

The fit

The elastic runs 360° around the whole skirt rather than being gathered only at the corners, so a fitted sheet for a small double bed grips the mattress instead of working loose overnight. The 200 thread count microfibre holds its shape through repeated washing and sits flat once it is on.

Washing and care

Machine washable at 40°C and safe to tumble dry on a low heat. Wash similar colours together, particularly the darker shades — black, charcoal and navy blue — to keep the colour looking rich. Take the sheet out promptly once dry and smooth it flat. Avoid dragging or overstretching the corners when fitting and removing it, and store it clean, dry and folded in a cool, airy cupboard.
