A bolster pillow — also called a body pillow or hug pillow — runs the full length of your body rather than just under your head. You hug it, lie against it, or put it between your knees. For side sleepers it does something no head pillow can: it stops your top leg dragging your hips out of line, which is where a lot of lower back ache comes from.
Ours are filled with 100% Pure Virgin Hollow Fiber — pure white, never mixed with recycled or lower-grade fibre — and made at our own base in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Because we fill them ourselves, the support is consistent from one end to the other rather than bunching in the middle.
| Size | Length | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 3ft | Single beds, day beds, sitting up on the sofa |
| Small Double | 4ft | Small double beds, shorter sleepers |
| Double | 4ft 6in | Double beds — the most popular size |
| King | 5ft | King beds, taller sleepers, full-body hugging |
| Super King | 6ft | Super king beds, maximum head-to-toe support |
As a rule of thumb, pick a pillow close to your own height if you want to hug it end to end, or one that matches your bed width if you want it across the headboard.

Lie on your side and hug it in front of you, resting your top arm and top knee on it. That keeps your shoulder, hip and spine in a straight line instead of letting the top half of your body roll forward. On your back, put it under your knees instead.
For hugging, choose one close to your own height — 5ft suits most adults, 6ft if you are tall. For full-width support across a bed, match the pillow to the bed: 4ft 6in for a double, 5ft for a king, 6ft for a super king.
They help with the kind of back pain caused by sleeping position, which is a lot of it. Keeping your hips stacked while side sleeping, or your knees raised while on your back, takes rotation and arch out of the lower spine. It is not a treatment — if pain persists, see a GP or physiotherapist.
In UK usage, yes. Bolster, body pillow and hug pillow all describe the same thing: a long pillow for supporting the body rather than just the head. Some bolsters are cylindrical; ours are rectangular, which is more comfortable to hug and easier to case.
You will need a body pillow case rather than a standard one — a normal 50 x 75cm case will not stretch to 4ft or more. Many people use a spare flat sheet wrapped around it, which washes easily and costs nothing.
Yes, and many people prefer it to a U shape because it takes up less of the bed and is easier to reposition. If you want wrap-around support on both sides at once, our U shaped pregnancy pillow does that instead.
For upper-body and back support while sitting up, see the V shaped pillow. For full wrap-around pregnancy support, the U shaped pillow. For your everyday head pillow, browse the full pillow range, our hotel quality pillows or natural-fill duck feather pillows. Read how to choose a pillow, compare fills in the pillow filling guide, check dimensions in the pillow size guide, and see how to wash pillows.
We fill these ourselves on Fieldhouse Industrial Estate in Rochdale, with more than fifteen years in textiles behind them. A long pillow is the one most likely to go wrong in mass production — fill bunches toward the middle and the ends go soft — so filling them in our own unit is what keeps the support even end to end. A body pillow supports everything below your head — your head still needs the right pillow. Side sleepers do best on our box edge pillows, and an extra deep 40cm fitted sheet plus a thick mattress topper does more for hip and back comfort than any pillow alone. Orders over £30 ship free, so bundling saves on delivery.
