Cushion inserts are the part nobody sees and everybody judges. A good cover over a thin, under-filled pad looks limp within weeks — which is why ours are filled generously with 100% pure virgin hollow fibre and made at our own base in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. We fill them ourselves by the tonne, so every pad in a pack of 8 matches the next.
Ten square sizes from 12 x 12in up to 30 x 30in, in packs of 2, 4, 6 and 8.
| Inches | Centimetres | Typically used for |
|---|---|---|
| 12 x 12in | 30 x 30cm | Small accent cushions, bolster-style styling |
| 14 x 14in | 35 x 35cm | Chairs, small scatter cushions |
| 16 x 16in | 40 x 40cm | The most common UK cover size |
| 18 x 18in | 45 x 45cm | Sofa scatter cushions |
| 20 x 20in | 50 x 50cm | Larger sofa cushions, beds |
| 22 x 22in | 55 x 55cm | Deep sofas, window seats |
| 24 x 24in | 60 x 60cm | Euro-style square cushions |
| 26 x 26in | 65 x 65cm | Large floor and feature cushions |

Match the insert to the cover size, or go one size up. A 16in pad in a 16in cover gives a neat, plump finish; an 18in pad in a 16in cover gives the full, slightly overstuffed look used in styled interiors and show homes. What you should not do is go smaller than the cover — that is what produces the flat, empty corners you see on tired sofas. Measure the cover flat, seam to seam, rather than trusting the label.

The same size as your cover, or one size larger for a fuller look. Measure the cover flat from seam to seam — cover labels are often approximate, and a 45cm cover is the same thing as an 18in one.
Almost always because the insert is under-filled or filled with recycled fibre. Recycled polyester has already been heat-processed, which crushes the hollow channels that give fibre its spring, so it starts with less loft and loses it faster. Virgin hollow fibre recovers when you plump it.
Yes — 40°C, one or two at a time, tumble dry on low. Dry them completely through the middle: a pad put away damp will clump and smell.
Hold the pad by two opposite corners and shake it hard, then knead the middle. Doing that weekly keeps the fibre redistributed and is the single reason some cushions still look good after three years.
They are made for indoor use. Hollow fibre holds water, so an outdoor cushion needs a water-resistant insert and cover rather than these.
Yes — that is what the packs of 6 and 8 are for, and we manufacture rather than resell, so larger runs are the same product at a better rate. See our wholesale page for volume orders.
These pads are filled by our own team on Fieldhouse Industrial Estate in Rochdale, with more than fifteen years of textile manufacturing behind them. Being the manufacturer rather than a reseller is why we can fill them deeper than the market standard at this price, and why a pack of 8 is consistent pad to pad. Filling your own covers instead? Buy the same fibre loose as 100% virgin hollow fibre filling in 1kg to 5kg bags. Also see our pillow range and zipped pillow protectors. Orders over £30 ship free, so a larger pack usually clears the threshold.
